The course offerings in the Psychology bachelor's program and master's degree program include broad and sound training in Health Psychology. With the aim and ambition of linking science and practice, the course offerings include, in addition to basic topics and current health psychology research, scientifically sound practice-oriented teaching content and formats (e.g., patient-oriented communication, patient education, prevention programs) even in the bachelor's program.

The final module examination takes the form of an oral examination lasting 20 minutes. Students can begin the examination with their chosen chapter from the Encyclopedia (introductory topic).

Final module examination B.Sc. Psychology Module M - Health Psychology (Advanced) (As of: 04/2012)

The subject of the 20-minute examination is the presentation and discussion of two self-selected studies on relevant fields of application in Health Psychology.
One of the following topics must be chosen for this:

Bronchial asthma and COPD
Atopic dermatitis
Inflammatory bowel
disease
Chronic pain
Diabetes mellitus
Cardiovascular diseases
HIV/AIDS
Vaccination behavior
Smoking cessation
Sexual dysfunctions
Stress and stress management

Study selection
Two published papers, self-selected in consultation with the examiner, are the subject of the examination. These papers must be made available to the examiner via email no later than 3 weeks before the examination date. Empirical papers (e.g., meta-analyses, epidemiological studies, prevention/intervention studies) are recommended. Please also note the following when selecting the studies:
− Only English-language papers published in scientific journals are permitted.
− Preferably, more recent papers should be selected (from publication year 2000 onwards).
− www.pubmed.com is recommended as a suitable portal for literature research.

Process

At the beginning of the examination, you will present the selected studies, followed by a discussion of them.

Central aspects here are:

(1) relevance to the topic (in theoretical and practical terms)

(2) gain in knowledge ("what does this study add to what is known")

(3) critical appraisal of the methodology.
