My research focuses on behavioral and substance-related addictions, with an emphasis on psychological stress factors such as traumatic childhood experiences, as well as on the evaluation of therapeutic approaches for behavioral addictions (e.g., gambling, online pornography, and video game addiction). I am currently also investigating motives for video gaming and its use as an emotion-regulation strategy in everyday life. The aim is to gain a nuanced understanding of video game use in different emotional states and to examine to what extent gaming functions as an adaptive or maladaptive regulation strategy or whether\u2014consistent with current emotion-regulation theories\u2014the flexible use of this strategy depending on the emotional state is crucial for its functionality. In teaching, I cover evidence-based approaches to health promotion. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
